CATTLE SHIPPING FEVER MEETS ITS MATCH WITH NEW VACCINE

Ames, Iowa, USA Natsot Duration: 1.34″

A new, more effective vaccine to protect cattle from a costly respiratory disease has been developed by scientists of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Vacsyn Company of Paris, France. The disease, commonly called cattle shipping fever, costs U.S. farmers and ranchers alone about one billion dollar a year in losses. Microbiologist Kim Broogden of the Agricultural Research Service and Doctor Louis Chedid, a physician with the Vacsyn company, are co-inventors of the new vaccine that kills the bacterium that cause the disease. In recent tests, the vaccine killed the deadly bacteria in seven days, providing protection when the animals need it most.
