Turkish military forces can be seen on the streets of Ankara, Friday, after the military declared its takeover of the country. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has confirmed that an attempted coup was underway.
Airports in Istanbul have been closed and military forces have blocked traffic on several bridges with military jets reported to be flying low in Turkey’s largest city.
The Turkish military has announced that it was seizing power in the country “to protect the democratic order and to maintain human rights.” The statement also reported that all existing foreign relations will continue.
